Crazy quilts, with their (defining) random-shaped pieces, can sometimes dissolve into a chaos that can make me nervous.
Here, the balance and symmetry of the overall design frames and contains the center section, a charming "inventory" of everyday objects: a fan, a pocketbook, a vase of flowers and a lacy umbrella.
The center hexagon, filled with a bouquet of appliquéd and embroidered flowers, serves to anchor the various elements. The carefully designed border (with each piece outlined in light colored embroidery) is a brilliant touch, and the scalloped edging completes this perfectly.
