"Broderie Perse" is a technique where the maker cuts sections of out of chintz fabric, and then meticulously appliqués the chintz piece onto a white ground.
This early piece is in Excellent Condition -- sturdy and intact. It was recently washed, professionally. Strong and sturdy cottons.
Lovely hand quilting subtly enhances the central medallion filled with a Vase and Flowers, as well as the floating floral images in the white center. The quilted feathers, cross hat ch, and clamshell designs are all executed in fine, even stitches.
The central vase is surrounded by diamond of chintz. A different, wider, also gorgeous floral chintz border surrounds the light, elegant center field. The border chintz has been brought around to the back to finish the quilt.
