This top only, unfinished silk piece is so elegant... I can see it framed just right, and thus the perfect piece for hanging in a relatively small space.
Our friend, Louise Tieman, saw this beautiful piece was able to track down what is likely the original source for the piece. See second photo to see the design published in a black and white drawing in Godey's Lady's Book in 1858. Great find!
The pieces along the four edges still have paper within. The papers have been removed from the remaining hundreds of pieces. The silks are in excellent condition with some very minor weakness here and there.
The tiny and numerous stitches in the whip stitching (that attaches each piece to one another) is hard to believe. See photo #3.
