Oak Leaf Applique Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1860
80 x 94 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in Colorado
There's lot to love about this mid 19th century quilt.
The maker was expert in appliqué and in reverse appliqué -- note how s/he added those little red shoots off of the circular centers. The quilt is of a generous size (80 x 94 inches) making it easier to work with on a modern bed.
And it is in Excellent Condition. The fabrics are intact and strong; the quilt is thin and lightweight. The gorgeous printed cotton appliques are surrounded by a vining border, and sit on a densely and expertly hand quilted ground.
On a bed, on a wall, or folded, this one's unusual .. and a beaut!
