I've been puzzled over what to call this beautifully executed mid-19th century quilt and so turned to my quilt pals for help. "Carolina Lily"? No. "Peony" Not quite. One friend suggested "Polk's Fancy" -- and I think that comes close. Still, I've stuck with "Peony."
Whatever it is called, this treasure is precisely pieced and has extraordinarily fine hand quilting which creates a lovely surface --a textured field holding 42 pieced and appliquéd Peony blocks.
In excellent condition with the occasional spot. Thin and lightweight with strong sturdy cotton fabrics. Ready to hang or use on a bed, or folded.
