Farm House Pictorial Quilt

This wonder was collected near Binghamton, New York in the 1980's, and then made its way to me, about a dozen years ago. I have had it in my personal collection since then.
The quilt came to me without a history, but there is a clue as to its possible maker. Inscribed on the back of the quilt, in rather crude embroidery, is the name "ANNA BOWMAN."
We cannot know for sure that Bowman is the maker, but it's a start. That name, sounding German in origin, was quite common in that part of the country, but not knowing more specifically about where the quilt was made, I have not yet found a likely candidate.
But Anna, or someone, made a stunning pictorial quilt, perhaps a personal interpretation of her own home and surroundings...? The houses, fences, walkways, birds and trees (some stuffed) are out of scale with one another, a charming feature of some first rate American folk art.
The hand quilting is very skillfully executed, and in unusual designs. Quilt is in Excellent Condition; it is thin and lightweight. All cotton fabrics are sturdy and intact. Some unevenness in the color in the green fabric does not detract from the visual impact.
I'm very pleased to be able to offer this American Folk Art treasure. Nineteenth century Pictorial Quilts are so rare to find ~ and this one's a Honey!
