There are, of course, an infinite number of ways to put squares and rectangles together. The person who arranged these wool pieces created a very handsome, sophisticated, and graphic tied quilt. All wools, excellent condition.
In the history of painting, Cubism arises around 1907- 1908 with Braque, Picasso, et al.. However ... Women Rule: We see this kind of abstract, geometric composition far earlier in the textiles American women (and a few men) were creating.
This quilt maker embellished the top of the quilt with the strings of the ties s/he used to make knots to hold the three layers together. The red and white ties are thereby enhancing the top -- an integral part of the overall composition. S/he used many, many more ties than are needed, practically ... a thoughtfully artful decision.
