An excellent size for hanging, this graphically stunning late Victorian quilt measures 55 x 63 inches. One of the diamonds was made from a lithographed silk with the date of 1876, so the quilt was likely made soon there after.
Made of silks and velvets, there are a few silk diamonds that have begun to wear (see last photo), but the quilt displays beautifully and is in overall sturdy condition.
There are some lovely images and floral designs embroidered intermittently in the diamonds -- where the quilt maker called on the Victorian types of embellishments often seen in Crazy Quilts. The sides also are hand embroidered in yellow thread outlining the sawtooth-y edge.
