Rose Applique
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1850
80 x 92 inches
Origin Unknown; Possibly Ohio
As delicate and beautiful as any mid-19th century appliqué quilt, this treasure is thin, lightweight, and elegantly hand quilted.
Elaborate quilting designs include feathers, feathered wreaths, and rather unusual wave or echo quilting. The quilter achieved an impressive 10 - 11 stitches per inch (counting one side only.)
The "smiling" flowers and smaller curving vines that make up the borders ~ all in printed green and double pink cotton fabrics. Finished with a separately applied narrow red binding ~ rounded at the corners.
In Near-Mint, Clean Condition.
