Nautical Quilt Top
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1930
76 x 90 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in Michigan
Kinda Wrinkly, Kinda Unfinished
I often think about the unidentified makers of old quilts I encounter. But never more so than when a project seems to have been interrupted in a big way. In this case, it's smacks a bit of drama:
Four white anchors appliquéd on two of the corners; two anchors in one corner, and ... none in the last corner. What stopped her short? Was it sudden?
This nautical ("nauty"??) design has the feel of perhaps a commercial designer, but I don't think I have seen it before. It's a top of a generous size: 76 x 90 inches. It's pretty wrinkly, and I don't know how it would quilt out.
But it is a cool item, and I offer it here for sale. You all have great imaginations ~ this piece could be something wonderful!
