Turn it either way and it sings!
Found in Alabama, but without any history, this quilt has a raw, powerful look reminiscent to some of classic Navajo weavings.
The chattering edges of the red "steps” seem to vibrate back and forth with the white space, while the simplicity of the design gives the quilt a classic and calming presence.
The quilt is composed entirely of solid red and white cottons strips, organized into Four oversized Log Cabin (Courthouse Steps) blocks.
Very good condition. Hand quilted rather more densely than I expected, in small, even stitches (see photo detail). At 77 inches square, it's a terrific size for hanging, and on a wall ~ what a statement it makes.
