Unidentified Quilt Maker
80 x 80 inches
Early 20th century quilt makers had a kind of love affair with the Hexagon. During the 1920 - 1950 period, "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilts, for example, were all the rage. Variants of that design also popped up, most commonly in designs like Field of Diamonds and Hexagon Baskets. Only occasionally do we see Hexagons organized as Six Point Stars.
This brilliantly designed example has everything going for it. In near-mint, crisp condition, it is strong and sturdy, and ready for a bed, wall of even folded.
A skilled and very experienced quilt maker worked this one; the precise piecing and superb hand quilting (around every single hexagon) represent her expertise in every detail. Enjoy the photos.
