Hexagon Central Medallion Top
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Inscribed in embroidery: "SK 1866"
42 x 50 inches
Origin: Probably England; Found in California
The very center lone hexagon is inscribed in tiny cross stitch:
"SK" and "1866"
This is a small quilt top made entirely of hexagons, pieced around paper
and whip-stitched together. The top remains basted, and there is a simple white fabric to which it has been lightly sewn.
Check out the photos to see that the many beautiful printed fabrics are in sturdy condition, with no wear and no weakening. The whole piece is in Excellent Condition except for some minor staining, visible in the close up shots,
but difficult to see in life.
Some of the prints have been "fussy cut" ~ to great effect! I especially like how she
cut and used the black and white striped fabric in the
outermost row of the central medallion.
