One way to make a quilt your very own is to combine traditional quilt designs together in a unique way. 

Jean Johnston (or whoever may have made this one) did just that. (Was she the maker ~ or perhaps the recipient of this as a gift... ?)

The center design of alternating light and dark rectangles is commonly called
"Brick Wall." Here the "wall" is covered with hand embroidered "X"es.

The inner border is made up of Log Cabin blocks organized in light and dark diagonals (called "Straight Furrow variation).  Each corner of the
inner border is Crazy Quilt.

The outer border on three sides is a construction of light, medium and dark strips into what's known as "Piano Key."
