Quilts made with wools can be difficult to quilt through, and are often tied to hold the three layers together. When quilts have many more ties than are practically necessary, my own term for them "over-tied."
Whoever made this quilt (or comfort as they are sometimes called), made the ties in a contrasting color and carefully covered the surface with a blizzard, creating yet another layer of design.
This one is a bit faded in places, has cozy flannel back, and is on the heavy side. A weighted blanket before its time!
