Double Irish Chain Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1860
74 x 84 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in California
Dating to before the Civil War, this Double Irish Chain quilt is soft ~ soft in color, and soft to the touch. It's a lovely, quiet piece, made from two very early printed cottons, both of them "double pinks."
All of the fabrics in the quilt are fully intact, though the colors have mellowed. There are some occasional spots. Thin and lightweight, it was quilted by an experienced needler; the stitches are fine and even, and the designs are elaborate.

So what's a Move Along?
-
There comes a time in every antique dealer’s life that requires she “Move Along” certain items in her inventory. When is that?
- When your shelves are too full, and you are buying lots and lots of wonderful things, it’s time to slash some prices.
- When quilts have been around a long, long time, it’s time to slash their original prices.
- When the cabinet of “WASH” or “REPAIR” quilts is overflowing, and you just don’t think you will ever really get to it, it is time to price those quilts accordingly: “cheap”Move Alongs (only) are always sold “As Is,” with no returns.
