You don't see great examples of "Broderie Perse" textiles very often... Broderie Perse is a term used to describe an early technique of cutting out images from chintz fabric, and applying them onto a background. It is also called "Cut Out Chintz."
Here is a block by block sampler of various scenes and bouquets, cut very closely from imported gorgeous chintz fabric. Hand appliquéd with fine stitching, executed by a skilled, experienced needlewoman.
The center image, a couple having tea, is the largest block, surrounded by twelve other blocks of people, scenes, architecture or bouquets.
A fine and rare example in Excellent Condition.
