Unidentified Quilt Maker
84 x 84 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in Ohio
Variations on wreaths, including an unusual guitar-shaped one, are anchored by two pots-of-flowers in this mid-19th century Album quilt. The maker seemed to enjoy making cherries/dots.
The sparkling center is surrounded by first, one Dogtooth border, then an intricate vining leaf, buds, and flower border, and finally a second Dogtooth border. Note the ruched center of the corner flowers...
In very good condition, with mellowing of the original colors. I think it is possible that the larger flowers in the lower right corner block have been restored with a turkey red print fabric of the original timeframe.
Hand quilted in nice even stitches. A lovely example of the art of the Album.
