MINT Condition; Absolutely Crisp
Perfection for the Perfectionist!
I think the photos here will tell most of the (known) story. People sometimes use the term "MINT" in place of "Excellent Condition." This marvel is MINT.
I wish we knew more about the origin of the quilt, but its known history goes back only a few years; I know the last two owners, but nothing before that. The photos here will tell most of the (known) story, I hope.
The overall design works so well. The nine lovely Rose Wreaths in the center are framed (and enlivened )by three beautiful borders: a sinuous applique vine running between two Dogtooth borders.
The quilt maker's needlework skills were superb.
Her tiny applique stitches are all but invisible, and s/he hand quilting in small even stitches in elaborate designs including feathered wreaths of various sizes and perfectly spaced diagonal lines.
These days it's rare, and such a pleasure, to be able to offer a quilt in such "original" condition. This beauty looks like the (nineteenth century) day it was made.
