Unidentified Quilt Maker
98 x 98 inches
Unknown Origin, probably Ohio
A large, mid-nineteenth century Rose Applique with lots of white space for exceptionally beautiful hand quilting.
I'm hoping you can see the tiny, even stitches and graceful quilting designs in the photos below.
The roses are hand appliquéd with almost invisible stitches; s/he used an unusual "reverse applique" in some of the buds.
The distinctive border ~ vines and flowers coming out from a small pot ~ has been found primarily in Ohio applique quilts made during this era.
Measuring 98 x 98 inches, it's an exceptionally generous size, and would work well on a modern bed. Excellent Condition.
