Around the turn-of-the-20th century, "Joseph's Coat" (also called "Rainbow") was a favored design among the Pennsylvania Mennonites quilt makers.
Pennsylvania Mennonite women often used solid colors with this design. Here, cotton strips in colors of the rainbow alternate with wider pink bars.
This quilt maker alternated her quilting designs. She did chevrons in all of the rainbow sections, and cables in the pink. Excellent hand quilting; executed in tiny, even hand stitches.
A classic Pennsylvania German antique in near-mint condition.
