Log Cabin, Light and Dark variation
Unidentified Quilt Maker
60 x 74 inches
So many narrow "logs" in this Light and Dark variation of the iconic Log Cabin quilt, made in the late 19th century. It's a medley of the cotton fabrics widely available to everyday women at the turn of the century, for all their household sewing.
By organizing the colors of the logs of each individual block into light and dark areas, half light, half dark (on the diagonal), quilt makers can manipulate the overall design. This maker created the illusion of alternating light and dark squares.
The quilt is in Excellent Condition, strong and sturdy with intact fabrics. Lightly hand quilted. Measuring 60 x 74 inches, this graphically stunning quilt is a good size for hanging.
