Tulip and Birds Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1880
90 x 90 inches
Origin Unknown; Likely Pennsylvania
A honey of a quilt ~ generous in size at 90 inches square, and so workable on a modern bed. Or put it on a wall, like I did when my assistant, Brad took a needed break from photography one day.
The appliqué designs, Tulips, Pots, and Birds, along with the colors, suggest a Pennsylvania German aesthetic.
Excellent Condition, with the occasional small spot. Fabrics are all intact ~ strong and sturdy. The green was likely a deeper color once, but if so, it has faded as much as it ever will.
The maker hand quilted the three borders with a sextuple (!) cable design; the stitching in the orange sashing has crosshatch or "hanging diamonds" design.
