Churn Dash Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1890
70 x 77 inches
Origin Unknown
A classic turn-of-the-20th-century patchwork quilt, circa 1890. The design was such favorite that it has several common names: Churn Dash, Monkey Wrench, and Hole in the Barn Door among them.
The printed cotton fabrics are typical of what was available to American women around the end of the 19th century ... used for all kinds of hand sewing, including clothing and quilts.
Hand quilted and in very good condition. One block, a deep chocolate printed cotton, has the beginnings of wear (see last photo). All of the rest of the quilt is in Excellent Condition.
