New York Beauty Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1940
60 x 100 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in New Mexico
"New York Beauty" is a name given (by the Mountain Mist batting company) to a traditional American quilt design, originally known as "Rocky Mountain Road."
This mid-20th century example was probably originally created as a bedspread for a twin bed, intended to go over the pillows at the top off the bed. Recently hadn't washed, this is in Tip-Top Condition. Fresh and clean; thin and lightweight.
The design is difficult to piece, with tis curved seams and precise points. This quilt maker was a pro ~ check out her exceptionally fine hand quilting here ... executed at about 12 tiny, even stitches per inch (counting on side only.)
