Unidentified Quilt Maker
76 x 76 inches
A stunning example of a classic Hawaiian quilt, circa 1930, all cottons. The bold central design, both applique and reverse appliqué, is surrounded by complex borders which mimic and riff on parts of the central design.
In the Hawaiian tradition, the hand quilting designs echo the applique; it is known as "wave quilting." These authentic, classic Hawaiian quilts, are always done in solid colors, and usually in two colors only.
I'm very pleased to add this to my inventory as true antique Hawaiian quilts are hard to come by, so finding a wonderful example in Excellent Condition is a thrill. Aloha!
