Four Patch Poster Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1880
90 x 90 inches (note cut-out)
Origin Unknown
Quilts with this kind of cut-out were typically made for specific beds that had tall posts at the corners. Often these are early 19th century quilts, and this one, made a bit later, has some very early printed fabrics in it.
And the fabrics are simply yummy. All of them intact and retaining their original vibrant colors, there's a nice array of cotton prints organized into Four Patches within Nine Patches. The quilt maker set them "on point," within a diagonal grid of a consistent Double Pink print ~ an anchor to the sparkle within.
The cotton back has been brought around to the front to create a lovely contrasting narrow frame. Excellent, crisp condition, and hand quilted.
