Blazing Stars Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
80 x 90 inches
Origin likely Pennsylvania; Found in Virginia
Fine hand quilting and unusual color distinguish this bright and graphic late-19th century Star quilt. I found it in Virginia, but my best guess, based on the bold color and printed back, is that it probably was made by a Pennsylvania quilt maker.
It's in excellent condition, with strong and sturdy fabrics; the quilt is thin and lightweight. There are a few stains, the worst of which appear in one place on the printed yellow border (top right of my photo). I have not washed the quilt.
There is very good hand quilting, done in nice, even stitches, and designed in elaborate designs including feathered wreaths in the solid red alternate blocks.
