The information I received about this quilt is that it was made by a member of the Tharpe family of Henry County, TN, and that the family was African American.
In a quick internet search for more information. I found that there were and (are still are)many Tharpes living in or near to Paris, TN in Henry County (Northwest Tennessee, very near the Kentucky border.)
Although I don't know if we could ever identify the particular family member who made this, her quilt has lived on, with at least the family name accompanying it.
She used a zillion scraps, organizing the "strings" into elongated hexagons, and then stringing (ha) them together like hanging lanterns.
Condition is Very Good: the quilt is sturdy and intact, and has seen some washes over these 75 years or so. Colors are mellow, and well balanced.
