Bars
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 19890
84 x 84 inches
Found, and likely made, in Pennsylvania
The quilt maker chose gorgeous, rich color for her handsome Bars quilt, which is a design also known as Joseph's Coat, or simply Stripes.
The superb hand quilting, executed in small even stitches, and organized in a diagonal crosshatch (sometimes called "hanging diamonds," subtly enhances the design ... a quiet, reticent asset.
In keeping with the mahogany, green, and chromium orange ("cheddar"), the maker chose a harmonious printed cotton for the back.
