Toile de Jouy Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1785
90 x 92 inches
Jouy-En-Josas, Île-de-France , France
Named "La Pagode sur un Pont de Rochers" (Pagoda on a Rock Bridge), here we have a very early quilt composed of pieces of copperplate printed cotton and linen toile.
The fabric with a Japanese theme is from the French firm of Christophe Phillippe Oberkampf (1760 -1843).
In sturdy condition, and with linen back. Photos of this 18th century piece clearly show discoloration, but there is no other damage.
