Double Ninepatch Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1910
69 x 74 inches
Found in Plevna, Kansas
This quilt came with a paper note stitched to the indigo print back. Note reads: "Bought at Amish sale North of Plevna" I was fully expecting "Plevna" to turn out to be a town in Pennsylvania. Nope! It's in Kansas, where there are indeed some small Amish and Mennonite communities. (Plevna had a population of 80 (!) in the 2020 census.)
Filled with printed cotton fabrics, prints typical of early 20th century and widely available in stores, or by mail order (think Sears or Montgomery Wards) this one is in Excellent Condition. Very fine hand quilting!
