"Out, out damn spot!"
Can you live with a stain, if it is part of an antique quilt that is otherwise fabulous? This wonderful, circa 1870 Basket quilt has so much going for it.
I really like the colors, the fabrics, the set and sashing, the proportions, and the hand quilting. This one's a beaut.
All good, except for that serious stain (and another that is not as large) that I was not been able to get out. And yes, the quilt was recently washed. So, the quilt is fresh and clean.
The back of the quilt looks like a cotton that has been home dyed – perhaps with walnut. The back dye looks somewhat splotchy, but the cotton is fully intact. All fabrics, front and back are strong and sturdy.
Check out the photos, and see if you have good place for this beautiful but flawed little treasure. I've highlighted the stain in my last photo.
