Hexagons Quilt Top
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1890
64 x 68 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in Pennsylvania
Finely hand pieced (see last photos), this colorful, unfinished quilt top has so much potential. Use it as is. Or finish it, small as it is, with a simple binding. Or add borders for a larger quilt, to fit a wall or a bed.
The maker organized the overall design as a medallion, using five brown printed octagons as the center, and surrounding that center with square "rings" of repeated colors. The maker added one extra row of blue, seen here at the bottom.
This top was likely made by a Pennsylvania German, as suggested by the fabrics. They loved color -- their work is typically so decorative. All the fabrics here are printed, including the "whites" which are all subtly figured.
A beautifully designed and beautifully sewn quilt top -- and in Excellent Condition. What more can you ask for?
