What spectacular color in this Pennsylvania Lone Star quilt, made around the turn of the 20th century. The maker, probably a Mennonite, combined the solid colors in beautiful, dynamic ways.
S/he chose to enclose the center bursting Star with an inner sawtooth border of teal and cheddar/orange, which sh/he followed with a wide outer border. To my eye, this quilt maker chose the just-right proportions, along with very effective color placement.
The all-cotton quilt is hand stitched, with fine, even stitches, and decorative designs, including a dense cable in the wider outer border. Quilt is in excellent condition.
