Made by Helen Fleenor (1925 -2001)
70 x 86 inches
Her full name was Helen Rose Fleenor Bowlin, but she is well known as Helen Fleenor, the gifted creator of collectible pictorial-sampler quilts, each done in her charming and distinctive style.
Fleenor's exuberance dances across the surface of her quilt: 56 blocks of imaginative, colorful designs, along with lots of text, all of it hand-embroidered.
Some of the images and texts are religious in nature, as in this hand stitched text: "Be trusting and honest, be thankful for all you have, Jesus loves you." Christian images abound: the Bible, crosses, and Jesus himself.
The quilt is all about Joy, it seems to me. The hand embroidered adages and stories are all positive and hope-filled: "Our home is just a little house but God knows where we live."
Have fun looking at the bounty of Helen Fleenor's optimistic, loving attention.
