A Quiet Quilt
Using a wide variety of madder-based printed fabrics, a mid-19th century quilt maker created this wonderful piece. For my eye, it has just the right balance of "moods."
S/he adhered to symmetry in design, and she used a very quiet palette, which
is calming and reassuring, somehow. Yet the variety of prints, plus the
jiggety-jaggety quality of brown and white half square triangles throughout,
jazzes it up, ands gives it a bit of sparkle and some lively movement.
In very good condition with no wear and the occasional spot. Hand quilted in
a cross hatch grid; the stitches are fine and even.
