Poppies Quilt

Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1930
76 X 84 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in California

Marie Webster was a very successful, turn-of-the-20th century professional quilt designer.  Webster's Studio first published her "Poppies" pattern in 1912.  The pattern was popular with American quilt makers and it's not unusual to come across one.

This example, though, is kind of rare, because of its color. The Color Purple. Every other example of Webster's "Poppies" quilt I have seen has been done in orange, yellow and green.  (See my last photo for one in those colors.)

Made in the 1930's, this is in perfect condition; it appears to have not been used.   Light pencil lines, which marked the pattern for the hand quilting, remain.  Hand quilted.

Finished with a perfect, narrow green cotton binding.
