An absolutely outstanding example of a traditional quilt design known as "Carpenter's Square."  This one has just about everything going for it.  As we say about the finest antique quilts: "This was definitely not her first quilt!"

An accomplished quilt maker, s/he precisely planned and carefully executed the entire design.  The quilt is not only meticulously pieced, it's also expertly hand quilted.

S/he chose to quilt angular designs (dense crosshatch), fully in keeping with the geometry of the red and white piecing. And, then, by adding softly winding feathers and feathered wreaths, s/he adds a balance to the cool angularity, creating an overall subtle harmony.

This treasure is in excellent, apparently unused condition ~  it still has very light pencil lines which had originally marked her quilting designs.

I'll be very curious to see where this quilt, with its precise geometry and intriguing dimensionalities, ends up; I can think of so many great possibilities!
