Ex-Judy Roche Collection
Few very early crib quilts come to us in good condition. When made to be used, they are "used up." Easy to understand ~ crib quilts made for young children typically need frequent washing.
This little beauty has survived its more than a century and a half very well. It is thin, soft, and lightweight, with little or no batting ~ and except for a couple of light spots (see photos), is in Excellent Condition. The back is a simple brown and white print, with some minor loss to the threads where it is brown.
Skillfully made, with, an appliqué center, LeMoyne Star pieced cornerstones, and lovely mid-19th century printed cottons, it is also hand quilted. Measuring a yard square, this treasure is ready for just right place on your wall.
