Dresden Plate Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1940
76 x 80 inches
Found in Michigan
Chock-full of Depression-era cottons, this quilt is a virtual window into what printed fabrics were widely available to American women mid-20th century.
The "Plates" have many more segments than the usual Dresden Plate quilt, and even more gorgeous prints make up the inner border. Nile or Jade green appliqued lobed designs alternate with the Plates, and lend a calming consistency to the whole.
Hand quilted with dark thread organized in a large double grid. The quilting is done in fine, tiny, even stitches. Excellent condition.
