Iris Quilt

Newly washed, this "Iris" applique quilt is in Excellent Condition. The dense, elaborate hand quilting is finely executed, and skillful applique stitching is skillfully done. This quilt is the work of an experienced, accomplished quilt maker.
The design works well, with well-placed colors; some of the flowers have two colored petals, adding some little surprises. Combining the spikes and angles of the stems and the setting works in a beautifully balanced way. S/he used Nile (or Jadeite) green within the center – and it is echoed by the inner green border as well as the narrow, separately applied binding.
The design is one that "Mountain Mist" (a brand name for Stearns & Foster Co.'s batting) was copyrighted by them In 1930, and one that became quite popular with American women mid-century. This example is an especially well made one.
