Broken Star Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
Circa 1940
62 x 72 inches
Origin Unknown
All the diamonds here are constructed from "strings" -- scraps of fabrics sewn together in parallel lines and then cut into shapes (in this case, diamonds). Even two of the inner borders are constructed this way.
Hand quilted, simply, in fans or clamshells. Sometimes called "elbow" quilting. Very good condition, thin and lightweight, with sturdy cotton printed fabrics.
