Strippy Quilt

I've called this a strippy quilt, but another name for it is "Chinese Coins." I wonder if that refers to its resemblance to an abacus. Anyone know?
The all cotton fabrics date to the very early 20th century, circa 1910. The quilt is in excellent washed condition. I note that the binding has been skillfully replaced with an indigo print that goes well with the rest of the quilt. The back is a white flannel.
Hand quilted in very fine stitching. See one of the closeup photos to see stitching that is about 10 tiny stitches to the inch (counting one side only).
