Strearns & Foster sold commercial quilt batting under the name "Mountain Mist." Sometime in the early 1900's, Mountain Mist created patterns for quilts, and printed those patterns on the paper that wrapped their batting. (See photos.)
The small images of many patterns are on the outside, and the full paper pattern of just one of those designs is on the inside.
This "Iris" design is one of those Mountain Mist-designed patterns. It must have sold well because many examples made from the early to mid-20th century are still around. We're happy to be able to offer this one!
Hand appliquéd and hand quilted, the quilt remains in very good condition. The cotton fabrics are sturdy, and the quilt is thin and lightweight. It measures 74 x 87 inches.
