Birds in the Air Quilt

Crisp and bright as the day it was made, about 135 years ago! Appears unused ... in Near-Mint Condition. Like new. Thin, lightweight, and study.
Made with a beautiful array of printed cottons typical of the late 19th century era. Many were printed with madder dyes. These are the fabrics that were widely available to American women for all of their household sewing.
This maker did very precise piecework, including tidy mitered corners. The hand quilting is done in tiny, even stitches, and is far more expert than we usually see in quilts with this much printed surface. See photos for the hand quilting.
The movement of the center blocks is elegantly enclosed -- framed with tow straight line borders. The quilt is prepared with a cotton sleeve attached to the (printed) back for ease in hanging.
