Recently back from a professional hand wash, each block of this Indigo and white Friendship Quilt is inscribed with names and initials rendered in ink or hand embroidery. Many of the names are "old fashioned" -- familiar -- but ones we don't hear so much these days. Maud, Ludie, Golda, Hattie, Berta ...
The maker(s) gave us a terrific show of the some of the great printed indigo cottons widely available to (and popular with) women in the 19th century.
The very skillful hand quilting is executed in a hanging diamonds/crosshatch pattern. Bright and clean, thin and lightweight, the quilt, in a classic combination of colors, is in Excellent Condition.
