Grandmother’s Flower Garden / Honeycomb Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1940
60 x 70 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in California
What a sweetheart of a quilt! And in Excellent Condition... This would be great in a Kid's room, or a classroom, on the wall. Or on a small bed. Or folded.
The scalloped edge is knife edged -- binding those shapes was probably a bridge too far. The cottons are all those that were ubiquitous in the Depression era -- and I like how s/he just put them all side by side, with no separations. Looks like a spring garden!
The cotton back print is a hoot. After choosing soft and pastel prints for the front, s/he went all out for the back. Maybe her inner wild child? Of course, it could all be practical -- who knows how much yardage she had access to? But this was someone's choice, and I think it's great!
Hand quilted and ready to brighten up a room!
