Philadelphia Pavement Quilt
Unidentified Quilt Maker
Circa 1940
75 x 75 inches
Origin Unknown; Found in Florida
A design also known as "Boston Commons." Makes us wonder if the design might have been considered an abstraction of the cobblestones of the streets in some of our earliest cities.
The quilt is thin and lightweight. The top was made circa 1940, and it may be that the very fine and elaborate hand quilting was added sometime later. Soft and curving feather designs work to subtly balance out the harder-edged shapes of the pieced squares.
All cottons. Excellent Condition.
