The Central Medallion "format" is one we inherited from England. Central Medallion format is characterized by strong central design, as in this "Princess Feather" here, is surrounded by multiple borders.
With some fabric deterioration (see photos), some fading, and a few intermittent spots, this splendid very early 19th century quilt maintains its graphic beauty, and its soul.
